The Meet: Andrew and Mia met on a Monday in May 2017 at Amelie’s in uptown Charlotte. Mia arrived at 7:30 AM for what she thought was a unique coffee date, not knowing Amelie’s also serves beer and wine. Andrew’s plan was to meet for a drink at 7:30 PM… but he did show up that morning after some scrambling. Following that timing mixup, one date led to another and they both agreed that they would never again meet at 7:30 in the morning. Mia and Andrew much prefer “neighborhood specific date nights” of progressive dinners in different parts of town, cooking and Netflix at home with Rizzo the pomchi, volunteering and being involved in the community, and traveling around the country and the world.
The Engagement: Andrew and Mia spent New Year’s Eve 2017 in the Lake Lure area and had a wonderful time, so wonderful that they decided to spend the holiday there again the following year. Little did Mia know that Andrew had additional plans to “ring” in 2019. Andrew was nervously watching the weather and decided Saturday, December 29 was the night. He built a fire outside and meticulously set up chairs and a Go-Pro while Mia fell asleep on the couch after dinner. Andrew asked Mia to come outside and sit by the fire, and it was there under the stars on land that had been in Andrew’s family for a 100 years, that he asked her to marry him.
